Using the BSI Boot Disc
Posted by Charlie Tumminello on 14 July 2010 11:07 AM

The BSI Boot Disc is an installation and recovery tool provided to our customers under OS Care support.  With this DVD, you can install the Red Hat OS and various DALiM products, as well as repair or update an existing Red Hat install.  To use the Boot Disc, power up your machine and enter your Boot Configuration screen (usually accessed by pressing F12 during the boot process).  Place the Boot Disc in your optical drive and choose it as the boot device.  When the machine has booted up, you will be presented with a splash screen that will allow you to choose several keywords to streamline your install.  They are:

OS:  This will install just the operating system

TWiST:  Install the OS and a base TWiST 6.2

DiALOG: Install the OS and a base DiALOGUE 4.2

BOTH: Installs the OS, TWiST 6.2 and DiALOGUE 4.2

LiTHO: Installs the OS and LiTHO 6.2 (without TWiST)

There are also several arguments that you can specify to set up certain OS or TWiST parameters as well, such as:

HN: Host name

IP: Network address

NS: DNS address (can be IP of host name)

GW: network gateway (must be IP unless NS option is set)

REP: TWiST master repository host name (useful if you are setting up a cluster and need a machine to point to a master repository)

RIP: TWiST master repository IP (must be used with REP option)

Finally, to upgrade an existing Red Hat install, use the keyword UPGRADE at the prompt.

Let's look at a few examples of using keywords and arguments to streamline an install.  If you wanted to set up a stand-alone DiALOGUE server named 'Dialog' with an IP of 172.16.1.155, you could type in:

DiALOG HN:Dialog IP:172.16.1.155 GW:172.16.1.254

while staging a machine to become part of a cluster, with the current TWiST server named 'Dalim1' on IP 10.0.1.200 could be done like this:

TWiST HN:Dalim2 IP:10.0.1.201 GW:10.0.1.254 REP:Dalim1 RIP:10.0.1.200

Once the disc has finished the install, it will eject and reboot the machine.  You will be able to log into the machine as the root user with the password '2y2teM'.
